Labcorp is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Operations Manager to join its Invitae Genetics team in San Francisco, CA.    

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 1st shift

Job Responsibilities:

Laboratory Operations & Departmental Leadership

• Provide operational oversight for the clinical laboratory and ensure reliable, efficient daily operations.
• Oversee laboratory workflows to support established turnaround-time, quality, and productivity targets.
• Monitor departmental performance, workload, staffing, and capacity and escalate significant concerns to the Site Director.
• Ensure appropriate staffing, scheduling, and operational coverage.
• Identify workflow issues and opportunities for improvement and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
• Support implementation of process changes, new equipment, instrumentation, and laboratory technologies.
• Maintain effective communication within the department and with cross-functional teams through regular operational meetings and collaboration.
• Support contingency planning and operational response to equipment, staffing, supply, or workflow disruptions.

Quality, Compliance & Regulatory

• Support compliance with CLIA, CAP, state, federal, and company requirements applicable to assigned laboratory operations.
• Maintain departmental readiness for inspections and audits.
• Partner with the Clinical Laboratory Directors, Technical Supervisors, and Quality teams to address quality and compliance matters.
• Ensure departmental personnel training and competency requirements are maintained.
• Support regulatory and accreditation inspections and responding to findings.
• Ensure laboratory processes are performed in accordance with approved SOPs and applicable regulations.
• Support investigation and resolution of deviations, nonconformances, quality events, and operational issues.
• Support CAPA, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Promote a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and continuous compliance.

People & Team Leadership

• Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and laboratory personnel.
• Support workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding, retention, and employee development.
• Promote employee engagement, collaboration, accountability, and professional development.
• Identify opportunities for cross-training and development of future laboratory leaders.
• Support succession planning within department.

Operational & Resource Management

• Monitor staffing, supplies, equipment, and other operational resources.
• Provide input to the Site Director regarding staffing needs, capacity constraints, equipment requirements, and operational priorities.
• Support departmental budget planning and responsible use of resources.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness while maintaining quality and compliance.
• Monitor operational KPIs and use data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with R&D, Quality, LIMS, Supply Chain, and other teams to support laboratory operations.
• Support assay launches, technology transfers, process changes, and implementation of new workflows.
• Provide operational input for new product implementation and ensure assigned departments are prepared for launch.
• Coordinate with Supply Chain to support availability of critical materials and supplies.
• Escalate issues requiring site-level decisions to the Site Director.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify and implement opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency, quality, and laboratory capacity.
• Support Lean, Six Sigma, automation, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
• Promote use of operational KPIs and quality metrics to support data-driven decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications:  

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology 
• 10 years or more clinical laboratory experience
• 5 years or more supervisory or management experience, directly managing employees
• 2 years or more experience working in a high-complexity clinical laboratory environment

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years or more experience with NGS-based genetic testing and molecular diagnostics.
• 2 years or more experience with laboratory automation and high-throughput operations.
• 2 years or more experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
• 8 years or more supervisory or management experience, directly managing employees

Additional Job Standards:

• Working knowledge of CLIA, CAP, and applicable state laboratory requirements.
• Demonstrated experience managing laboratory operations, personnel, and workflow.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Experience supporting regulatory inspections and laboratory quality systems.
• Strong operational leader with excellent execution discipline.
• Effective people manager and developer of talent.
• Data-driven and solution-oriented.
• Strong communicator and cross-functional collaborator.
• Able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced clinical laboratory.
• Demonstrates sound judgment and knows when to escalate issues.
• Promotes accountability, quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

**Salary Range: $140,000 - $180,000 / year

The position is also eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Bonuses are payable based on corporate and/or business segment performance and are subject to individual performance modifiers.

Benefits:  Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical,  Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours, Casual, Intern, and Temporary employees are only eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan. Employees who are regularly scheduled to work a 7 on/7 off schedule are eligible to receive all the foregoing benefits except PTO or FTO.
